April is just around the corner and it marks a number of big events arriving on the Gold Coast. Along with the 2018 Commonwealth Games, FESTIVAL 2018 will coincide with all the sporting action, providing FREE live entertainment up and down the coastline! From live music and theatre shows to circus and street performances, Festival 2018 will bring one fantastic program and an exciting atmosphere that’s not to be missed.
Festival 2018 aims to extend the festivities of the 2018 Commonwealth Games across the Gold Coast, where the famous beaches and venues will come alive with the very best art and culture that the region has to offer. An expected 1,440 artists from over 50 countries across the globe are set to be a part of this year’s Festival 2018, providing one HUGE program of entertainment and something everyone can enjoy. This monumental cultural festival will take over several locations on the Gold Coast, including Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise. Broadbeach itself will host the Queensland Music Stage in Surf Parade, set to feature performances from headliner Kate Miller-Heidke and Gold Coast local Amy Shark, as well as Lastlings, Ella Fence, Eliza and The Delusionals, amongst others.
In Surfers Paradise catch a number of must-see live performances from Yothu Yindi and The Treaty Project, Susheela Raman, M.anifest, The Cat Empire, and Hot Dub Time Machine. Also in Surfers Paradise don’t miss Restless Dance Theatre performing ‘Intimate Space’, as well as the ‘Giant Sing Along’, an exciting community event where a huge lyrics screen and plentiful microphones will be inviting anyone and everyone to sing along to a number fun pop songs.
Also not to miss throughout Festival 2018 is the jaw-dropping ballet and circus performance ‘The Rite of Spring’, art exhibit ‘Museum of the Moon’, old-school Hip-hop group Boombox Chicks, entertaining street performances by The Squad, and numerous food festivals as well as live performances taking place at NightQuarter in Helensvale - the Gold Coast’s famous food market.
