David Byrne rose to prominence during the late ‘70s and ‘80s as the lead vocalist and guitarist of pioneering American new wave band Talking Heads. Their 1977 debut album Talking Heads: 77 put them on the scene and received critical acclaim with their first charted single “Psycho Killer”. It wasn’t until their second album More Songs About Buildings and Food the following year that the made a bigger name for themselves overseas, which featured their hit single “Take Me to the River”. They then went on to dominate albums charts worldwide during the ‘80s, with albums Remain in Light, Speaking in Tongues, Little Creatures, True Stories, and Naked - all of which have now been certified Gold or Platinum.
It wasn’t until the ‘90s that David Byrne began to flourish as a solo artist. To date he’s released 10 solo albums, with his most recent 2018 release American Utopia reaching number three in the Billboard album chart. He’s now a multi-award-winner, and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
