The Gold Coast celebrates a lot of wonderful festivals that showcase its beauty, diversity and creativity. This coming 9-18 September 2011, art enthusiasts from all over can marvel at the magnificent and unique creations at this year’s Swell Sculpture Festival.
Held along the Oceanway at Currumbin between Currumbin Creek and Elephant Rock, Swell Sculpture Festival features 55 sculptures that are built by local and international artists that will be on display on the beach and dune areas. This is a free exhibit and will be open 24 hours for the entire festival week. For over ten days, tourists and locals can take part on the exciting events and programs that are included in the festival such as public art forum, twilight walks, artists’ talks, master classes and children’s workshop.
An ideal holiday down time activity, families can delightfully stroll through the beachside and dunes in Currumbin while appreciating some of the most interesting artworks on display at Swell Sculpture Festival. Try the Twilight Sculpture Walks where you’ll see a different perspective on several sculptures as it is lit up under the night skies. Visitors from our Elanora accommodation can also check out the Swell Small Gallery where they’ll find smaller artworks of each exhibiting artists.
The Swell Sculpture Festival will also hold public art forums as well as artists’ talks where spectators and the sculptors can freely discuss their ideas and inspirations for their creations. Aspiring artists can learn more about the technical aspects of each sculpture and other valuable insights from the artists themselves as they participate on the Q&A portion of the program.
Aside from the exhibit and forums, the Festival will also hold a number of educational programs for every aspiring artists such as Master Class and Swell Kids Program. In Master Class, participants will learn the basics in creating simple artwork from reinforced resin sculpture from clay, using plaster moulding techniques. While the Sell Kids Program, the participating littlies from our Currumbin family accommodation can learn about Dune Care through interactive approach. Kids can learn how to make sculptures with the aid and guidance of Marie-France Boissonneault.
