Visit Surf World
Discover the rich history of the Gold Coast’s number one pastime at Surf World, just a short drive from our Currumbin family accommodation.
Located opposite the spectacular Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, the unique museum is home to an extensive collection of fascinating memorabilia from across the ages, including surfboards, movie posters, fantastic artwork, album covers and historic photos. The exhibition explores the story of surfing from the 1900s to the present day, charting the evolution of board design technology over the decades and shining a special spotlight on Queensland’s own ongoing love affair with this ancient sport.
Take a look at the museum’s collection of solid timber Hawaiian boards from 1910; some of just a handful which still exist in Australia. These ultra rare, incredibly basic designs were carved out of a single slab of varnished redwood and still bare the original owner’s name embossed across their widths.
